Indexed Universal Life

Indexed Universal Life (IUL)

is a flexible type of permanent life insurance that combines lifelong coverage with the opportunity to grow cash value based on stock market performance without the risk of direct market losses.

As long as premiums are paid, IUL policies provide coverage for your entire life — not just a set term like 10 or 20 years. Part of your premium goes into a cash value account, which earns interest based on a market index (commonly the S&P 500).

You’re not investing directly in the stock market, but your account can benefit from its growth.

Even if the market goes down, your IUL’s cash value won’t lose money due to poor index performance. Most IULs have a

0% floor, meaning your gains can be capped, but losses are avoided.

The cash value in your IUL grows tax-deferred, and you can access it tax-free through policy loans and withdrawals if structured properly.

You can adjust how much you pay and even skip payments if there’s enough cash value to cover the policy’s costs. This flexibility can be helpful as your financial situation changes.

Many IULs offer riders that let you access your death benefit early in the case of a critical, chronic, or terminal illness.
